A $722 million sale sounds like a departure. The shares left afterward tell a different story.

A Medline ownership filing from GIC and related entities reports five sales across October 2, 5 and 6, 2026. Together, the transactions total approximately $721.6 million. Yet the filing also reports approximately 93.7 million shares held afterward.

How should an investor interpret that combination? This case shows why a sale headline becomes more useful when you examine the change in exposure, the remaining holdings and the reporting entities together.

What the filing reports

The issuer’s copy of the SEC Form 4 lists sales totaling 20,678,630 shares. Multiplying each quantity by its disclosed price produces an approximate total of $721,644,227.38. Prices reported as weighted averages make this a calculated approximation.

The disclosed remaining balances include 16,453,806 directly held shares and 77,225,493 indirectly held shares through Hux. Those distinct balances sum to 93,679,299 shares. Direct ownership means shares held directly. Indirect ownership means shares held through another ownership arrangement.

The transactions occurred over three dates; the filing date is October 6. Keeping those dates separate preserves the sequence instead of turning several transactions into a single-day event.

The size of the sale needs a denominator

Imagine two investors each sell two shares. One owned 30 shares before the sale and has 28 left. The other owned three and has one left. The quantity sold is identical, but the change in exposure is very different.

For Medline, the filing documents a substantial reduction alongside substantial remaining holdings. That is the answer to the opening question: the disclosed sales were not a complete exit from the reported investment.

Several reporting names can describe the same activity

The filing names GIC Private Ltd, GIC Special Investments Pte Ltd and Hux Investment Pte. Ltd. A joint report can include related entities with interests in the same shares. Counting the same transaction once for every reporting name would inflate the activity.

The useful research task is to connect each sale and ownership balance to the underlying holding, then count each transaction once. The SEC Form 4 provides the source details for that work.

How TradingEdgeIQ helps

Public Filings Intelligence brings the reported sales and remaining-holding fields into your research. Examining them together helps you understand how the investment changed without making the sale headline do all the explaining.

That saves a practical step: you begin with the transaction evidence and can focus your follow-up research on the ownership arrangements and remaining exposure. The next question is what that change means in the context of the company and your investment criteria.

Read the sale and the remaining investment together

This case establishes three useful facts: a large sale took place, substantial shares remained, and related reporting entities must be interpreted together. A better investment judgment starts with that fuller picture.

The next case adds another dimension: even when two investors buy at the same share price, did they receive the same economic package?
